In art, a subjective experience is placed in dialogue with an artist’s practice and the myriad possible shapes that their expression can take in time and space. Engaging with artworks fosters forms of debate and imagination that are key to cultivating a more equitable and empathetic future.

At Amant, we engage with the world through learning with our exhibiting artists, artists in residence, audiences, and extended community members. For us, learning combines listening and dialogue with an awareness that others have experiences and expertise that can help us better understand the role of art in our current moment and further shape our involvement with the world.

All of Amant’s programs, from exhibitions to performances, workshops, discursive and residency programs, and publications, are centered on process and research. We invite our visitors to participate and engage in our programs, which are always free.

Additionally, artists, community organizers, and curators who work at the intersection of art and education facilitate Amant’s educational activities on and offsite. We offer tours to our entire exhibition program for visitors of all age groups, abilities, and schools, by appointment. The tours are centered on dialogue and feature activities developed together with artists, curators, and Amant’s Visitor Engagement Representatives that explore further connections with the art on view and the visitors’ own experiences. From 2024 onwards, Amant in collaboration with the North Brooklyn community organization St. Nicks Alliance’s Youth and Education program offers a unique opportunity to high school students to be in conversation with artists and curators, express their ideas in discussions and artmaking projects that expand their portfolios, participate in tours and hands-on workshops, and develop important communication and critical thinking skills. This mentorship program is free and in-person and held in conjunction with Amant’s exhibition program. It will give students an understanding of career opportunities in the contemporary art and museum fields. For further information please contact us via contact@amant.org.
