“It’s not so much about presenting an accurate picture or report of my past work, it’s much more about remembering–and sometimes also not remembering–certain aspects of the work.”
In this New York presentation of her first comprehensive monograph, artist Manuela Ribadeneira talks tertulia-style with editors Sarah Demeuse and Manuela Moscoso about the process of looking back at her hybrid practice (combining visual art, a cultural organizing, and editorial projects) that challenges pristine visual documentation and that unfolds in sometimes contradictory contexts. The evening also features a memory exercise prompted from afar by Marcos Lutyens.
Manuela Ribadeneira’s monograph She asked directions for getting lost (Mousse 2022) brings together a series of hypnotic exercises prompted by Marcos Lutyens; essays by Catalina Lozano, Florencia Portocarrero, and Rivet (Sarah Demeuse & Manuela Moscoso); an interview with curator Rodolfo Kronfle; as well as a meditative piece by Pablo Lafuente.
This book launch is the pilot event of Dear Reader, a series of occasional public readings with informal conversations taking place at the Amant Bookstore.
