For On dual-formed concealing, Marcus Pal will present new work for spatial sound synthesis in a framework of precision-tuned harmony, drawing on principles of tuning from the work of their mentors Catherine Christer Hennix and La Monte Young. Exploring the dynamic co-emergence of interiority and exteriority in auditory perception, this performance focuses on the forms of intersubjective attention that may arise from the complex interaction between acoustics and embodied psychoacoustics—i.e. how sounds are formed and deformed by the human cognitive system.
The performance will take place in Géza as a seated listening experience, preceded and succeeded by the presentation of a sustained sound environment in the same space. Due to the sound’s sensitivity for bodily movement, and since some of the primary effects of the work occur as sonic afterimages, audience members are encouraged to arrive in time for the start of the performance and stay for the duration of the hour-long presentation.
