Soyoung Chung
Born in France, Soyoung Chung spent her childhood in France, Russia and Korea; she graduated from Ecole National Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. While Chung has experienced these different cultures, Seoul has been the artist’s base in the recent years.
Chung expands and experiments with the boundaries of sculpture through site-specific installations, sculptures, videos, and public interventions. Interested in what lies beneath (geology) and above (geopolitics) the land she stands on, the artist exposes the temporal layers of places based on geology, while contemplating the material time found in historical places situated on geopolitical boundaries.
Chung has held many solo exhibitions in South Korea including the ones at CR Collective (2022), ONE AND J. Gallery (2021), and Art Sonje Offsite (2016). Her works were exhibited in group shows at home and abroad: Seoul Mediacity Biennale (2023), National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (2021), Fondation Fiminco (2020), Curitiba Biennale (2019), Nottingham New Art Exchange (2017), Songeun Art Space,(2016), Seoul Museum of Art (2015), and Tripostal in Lille (2015).
